Hazard Identification
Hazard identification is a vital part of the workplace safety process. The basics of the Hazard Identification process are listed here for your information. To identify and assess hazards, employers, and workers:

Collect and review information about the hazards present or likely to be present in the workplace.

Conduct initial and periodic workplace inspections of the workplace to identify new or recurring hazards.

Investigate injuries, illnesses, incidents, and close calls/near misses to determine the underlying hazards, their causes, and safety and health program shortcomings.

Group similar incidents and identify trends in injuries, illnesses, and hazards reported.

Consider hazards associated with an emergency or nonroutine situations.

Determine the severity and likelihood of incidents that could result from each hazard identified, and use this information to prioritize corrective actions.
Risk Control
Risk Control is the step of the hazard management process that involves dealing with the risk in question.
Risk control is generally carried out in a hierarchical way, wherein the elimination of the risk is considered optimal (and at the top of the hierarchy), whereas personal protective equipment is considered to be the least effective option, and therefore sits at the bottom on the hierarchy. Controlling risk is a key aspect of maintaining a safe workplace.

Risk assessment is a term used to describe the overall process or method where:

Identify hazards and risk factors that have the potential to cause harm (hazard identification).

Analyze and evaluate the risk associated with that hazard (risk analysis, and risk evaluation).

Determine appropriate ways to eliminate the hazard, or control the risk when the hazard cannot be eliminated (risk control).
